Risk assessments ensure that you as the business owner have a 'duty of care' to ensure, as far as possible, your health, safety and welfare while you're at work. They should start with a risk assessment to highlighted any possible health and safety hazards and assess the level of risk then implement effective control measures that reduce the risk to the lowest level practicable.
As a business owner you have to appoint a 'competent person' with health and safety responsibilities usually one of the owners in smaller firms, or a member of staff trained in health and safety, or if no trained person an 'External Consultant with the necessary skills, experience, and qualifications.
